Recent Earth Quake and Signs of Qayamat

Nowadays there is news of earth quake in some or other part of the world once a week or at least once-twice a month. Each time there is news of earth quake, it always reminds me of the signs of Qayamat[The Judgment Day] given by our beloved prophet Muhammad [maypeace be upon him] more than 1400 years ago.

No one knows exact time of Qayamat except Allaah.

"They ask you about the Hour(Day of Resurrection): 'When will be its appointed time?' Say: 'The knowledge thereof is with my Lord (Alone).None can reveal its time but He. Heavy is its burden through the heavens and the earth. It shall not come upon you except all of a sudden.' They ask you as if you have a good knowledge of it. Say: 'The knowledge thereof is with Allaah (Alone) but most of mankind know not.''" [Al-Quran,Al-A'raaf(7):187]

I was curious to find out how many of the signs of Qayamat given by prophet Muhammad [may peace be upon him] we can see currently. I started reading a nice book "The Signs Before The Day Of Judgement" by Al-Haafidh Ibn Katheer Hadeeth. It is a very nice book which has references to many hadith of prophet Muhammad [may peace be upon him] related to Qayamat.

I kind of prepared a list of such hadith using above book which I feel turning out to be true in current time.

And these are:

v Earth quake will increase. [Bukhaaree,Kitaab al-Fitan, 9/74]

v Time will pass quickly. [Bukhaaree,Kitaab al-Fitan, 9/74]

v Killing will increase. [Bukhaaree,Kitaab al-Fitan, 9/74]

v People will compete in constructing high buildings. [Bukhaaree,Kitaab al-Fitan,9/74]

v Adultery will be prevalent. [Al-Bukharee Kitaab al-'Ilm,1/30,31; and by Muslim]

v Drinking of wine will be common. [Al-Bukharee Kitaab al-'Ilm,1/30,31; and by Muslim]

v Conquest of Constantinople [Istanbul] by Muslims (This has already happened long back).[Ahmad, Musnad, 2/174]

v Fornication will be very common; which will bring new diseases (AIDS?) which their forefather never suffered. [Bukhaaree, Kitaab al-'Ilm, 1/30, 31]

v People will sell their religion for a small amount of worldly goods. [Ahmad]

v Sudden death will be widespread. [Ahmad, Musnad, 3/358.]

v There will be a special greeting for the people of distinction. [Ahmad, Musnad,1/407.]

v Trade will become so widespread that a woman will help her husband in business.[Ahmad, Musnad, 1/407.]

v Family ties will be cut. [Ahmad, Musnad, 1/407.]

v Giving of false witness will be common, while truthful witness will be rare. [Ahmad, Musnad, 1/407.]

v Writing will be widespread. [Ahmad, Musnad, 1/407.]

v When a slave gives birth to her mistress. [Bukhaaree, Kitaab al-Imaan, 1/19]
When this was first told to sahaba [companion of prophet [may peace be upon him]] by prophet [may peace be upon him] sahaba was confused and so was I until I heard the explanation of this from Shaikh Musa Ismail Menk. Nowadays to maintain woman’s figure or for some other reason some couple from western countries take womb of a poor woman from countries like Philippines on rent and when she give birth to a child the couple pays for the child, which makes this child as master of that slave!

v If the leaders do not govern according to the Book of Allaah, you should realize that this has never happened without Allaah making them into groups and making them fight one another. (see Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Egypt in today’s world)[Ibn Maajah] [Ibn Maajah, Kitaab al-Fitan (Hadeeth 4019), 2/1332]

Hadith Which I am not so clear about or partially started to appear:

v Ummah will be swallowed up by the earth, some will be transformed into animals, and some will be bombarded with stones (Bombs??). [Tirmidhee]

v The Hour will not come until the time when a man will leave his home, and his shoes or whip or stick will tell what is happening to his family (may be mobile or something which has not been discovered yet). [Ahmad, Musnad, 3/88, 89.]

v Wealth will increase, so that a wealthy man will worry lest no-one accept his Zakaat (compulsory donation of some part of the wealth to needy people), and when he offers it to anyone, that person will say, "I am not in need of it." [Bukhaaree,Kitaab al-Fitan, 9/74]

v Two large groups will fight the another, and there will be many casualties; they will both be following the same religious teaching. [Bukhaaree,Kitaab al-Fitan, 9/74]

v The number of men will decrease and the number of women will increase, until one man will look after fifty women. [Bukhaaree, Kitaab al-'Ilm, 1/30, 31.]

v The Hour will not come until a man passes by someone's grave and says, 'Would that I were in his place!' [Bukhaaree, Kitaab al-Fitan, 9/73]

Note: The book which I have mentioned includes references of Sahih as well as Daif Hadith [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hadith_terminology], I have included only Sahih hadith only. Please check foot note if you are reading this book.

Conquest of Mecca:Aftermath

I was reading an artical on Conquest of Mecca on wikipedia, I found a very nice paragraph on aftermath of Conquest of Mecca. Below text is taken from wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conquest_of_Mecca. [Hope I am not breaking any copyright low, if any please let me know]

On the eve of the conquest, Abu Sufyan adopted Islam. When asked by Muhammad, he conceded that the Meccan gods had proved powerless and that there was indeed "no god but Allah", the first part of the Islamic confession of faith. When asked about the second part, the prophethood of Muhammad, Abu Sufyan still expressed some doubt but eventually yielded to threats, issued according to different sources by either Abbas or Umar. In turn, Muhammad declared Abu Sufyan's house a sanctuary:

"Who enters the house of Abu Sufyan will be safe, who lays down arms will be safe, who locks his door will be safe".
He also declared:

Allah has made Mecca a sanctuary since the day He created the Heavens and the Earth, and it will remain a sanctuary by virtue of the sanctity Allah has bestowed on it until the Day of Resurrection. It (fighting in it) was not made lawful to anyone before me. Nor will it be made lawful to anyone after me, and it was not made lawful for me except for a short period of time. Its animals (that can be hunted) should not be chased, nor should its trees be cut, nor its vegetation or grass uprooted, nor its Luqata (most things) picked up except by one who makes a public announcement about it.'
Then along with his companions Muhammad visited the Ka'aba. The idols were broken and the stone gods were destroyed. Thereupon Muhammad recited the following verse from the Qur'an:"Say the Truth is come and falsehood gone; Verily falsehood is ever vanishing."

The people assembled at the Ka'aba, and Muhammad delivered the following address:

"There is no god but Allah. He has no associate. He has made good His promise that He held to his bondman and helped him and defeated all the confederates. Bear in mind that every claim of privilege, whether that of blood or property is abolished except that of the custody of the Ka'aba and of supplying water to the pilgrims. Bear in mind that for any one who is slain the blood money is a hundred camels. People of Quraish, surely God has abolished from you all pride of the time of ignorance and all pride in your ancestry, because all men are descended from Adam, and Adam was made of clay."
Then Muhammad turning to the people said:

"O ye Quraish, what do you think of the treatment that I should accord you?"

And they said, "Mercy, O Prophet of Allah. We expect nothing but good from you."

Thereupon Muhammad declared: "I speak to you in the same words as Joseph spoke to his brothers. This day there is no reproof against you; Go your way, for you are free." Muhammad's prestige grew after the surrender of the Meccans. Embassies from all over Arabia came to Medina to submit to him.

Ten people were ordered to be killed:

Ikrimah ibn Abi-Jahl
Abdullah ibn Saad ibn Abi Sarh
Habbar bin Aswad
Miqyas Subabah Laythi
Huwairath bin Nuqayd
Abdullah Hilal
four women who had been guilty of murder or other offences or had sparked off the war

However, they were not all killed; at least Ikrimah lived to adopt Islam and fight in future battles among Muslim ranks.

ToolTip in HTML Page Using JavaScript

Sometimes we think at very high level for a problem and we forget there is a easy way out there.

The same thing happened to me in one of my project. Client was crazy, they wanted each and every damn fancy thing on a single html page. One of the requirement was to provide tooltip. If user does a mouseover to some particular location a fancy tooltip should appear with some dynamic details, hummm wait...they didn't want the simple tooltip provided by html, they wanted it to be full of color/graphic/fonts/etc and lots of dynamic content produced by the jsp.

We first decided to use a very popular free javascript library available(won't name it), it was working fine and giving desired output but after sometime we found that it was eating up lots of memory and after some ajax call it was making page almost hanged.

We decided to replace this tooltip...So I was googling on the internet and found some code...and suddenly a thought came into my mind, why can't we implement it in a simpler way. I tried that...and it worked too. Tooltip functionality provided by me was working fine and giving exact the same look and feel and content as of previous, in addition to that the major advantage was when previous tooltip implementation used to create 100s of HTML object and making html page slower; the newer one was creating only one DIV html object.

Wondering how ??? Click here to see the sample tooltip. Click here to get the tooltip code.

Inflation, Recession and Repo Rate

Breaking news today(12-Jun-2008) !!! RBI(Reserve Bank of India) has hiked repo rate by 0.25 basis point to 8%.

What does it mean ? Why does RBI need to hike the rate ?

Ok, first of all what is repo rate.

Repo Rate is a rate at which RBI lends money to the banks.

What is the significant of repo rate on economy? why does RBI hike the repo rate ?

To curb the inflation, RBI hikes the repo rate. If RBI hikes the repo rate than bank will have to pay more intrest to borrow money from RBI so what bank will do is they will pass this burden to the consumer and increase the intrest rate on loans(i.e. Personal Loan, Housing Loans, etc.). So, because of increase in intrest rate people will stop buying goods, house, etc. because of people not buying goods, price of the goods will fall because of lack of demand and which will inturn reduce the inflation !!! (Looks too optimistic, but think big, it works... :p )

Impact of hiking Repo Rate is profitibility of companies which are sesitive to intrest rate like Auto, Real Estate, Banking, etc. will go down because of hike in intrest rate and hence the stock market will fall (see the impact today, SENSEX is down about 350 pts.).

US is using same repo rate to curb recession, US is lowering repo rate. So, what will be the impact? Bank will have to pay less to borrow money from the Central Bank, bank will pass the same to the consumer by lowering intrest rate on loans. Because of low intrest rate people will start buying goods, house, and some will repay their mortgage at lower intrest rate(sub prime crisis). Hence, because of increase in demand price of goods will go up and profitibility of the companies will go up, to curb the demand comapny will start hiring more people so more job will be created, consumer confidence index will go up, comapnies will start giving good financial results, stock market will go up and hence economy can back on track.
